White Town: “Your Woman”
(Pt. 2 in my “Black and White Videos of the 90’s” Day)
I was 15 when this song came out, close to getting my driver’s license. I had a girlfriend who was really in to techno-pop-alternative music like Cornershop and Bran Van 3000. She really dug this song and would play it constantly while we ate her favorite dinner (Chicken McNuggets and Coke). I never really bothered to listen to the words until just now, but I realize it’s about a woman being stuck in a relationship with a crappy dude, and finally being open about it.
Maybe I was too afraid of my crazy girlfriend to let the song fully connect at the time, but I knew I liked it (Cornershop, not so much. Nor BV3.). It’s really strange now to realize how much the demise of our relationship came about in parallel to the events of the protagonist in this song without me ever fully realizing it, but when I dumped her at the airport, I knew that it felt awesome.
Am I horrible?
DID YOU KNOW? White Town had an album come out in 2000 called “Peek & Poke”? Teehee. “Peek & Poke”
